Literature Text

That Yesterday, we slid out of windows
Only to find the pavement rough with swastikas and the
Cruel words carved into white cement, bleeding lies.
The paw prints of hate
Marching down the streets, fangs bared,
Snarling.

Tripping over streets littered with the homeless
And other trash, miscellaneous. Broken bottles
were our windmills, cat and mouse the game.
Dashed against the fencing with no escape,
Felt the splinters piercing flesh as thoughts went awry.

Burning crosses overturned our fate.

We were outnumbered, unmade, unworthy
There was nothing to do but watch the sun come up
From behind clenched teeth
We can’t break it down.
named after a beer brewed in Detroit... awesome name/label, horrible taste. guess you can't have everything.

still in progress... tell me what you think.

'The paw prints of hate'

yes. hate is such a sneaky coward.

'We were outnumbered, unmade, unworthy

this section is my favourite too. it's a wonderful image, and the slight ambiguity of it (the sun rose up our throats and to our clenched teeth? or we watched the sun with clenched teeth?) is interesting. i like that the poem presents images, and leaves it up to the reader to attach them to meaning or definition. :)
